I’m heading to New York on Friday morning, looking to eat some great food, drink some great wine, and see some great theatre (namely Sleep No More). But I’m also looking to do some great vintage shopping while I’m there.
I’d love to hear your recommendations! Send me a message with some unexpected gems, and their locations. Please and thanks.
One of the best shopping experiences I had while in New York was at the famous Beacon’s Closet (in Williamsburg). You’ll seeing pieces from that shopping trip showing up in many posts in the next few weeks. However, I also managed to find this awesome Michael-Jackson-esque jacket at No Relation Vintage the day before visiting Williamsburg.
This outfit was definitely too cold for the day, but it was perfect for the area.

New York New York
A couple of weeks ago, I was lucky enough to spend a few days in New York. It’s never long enough (though it was made shorter by a number of flight cancellations). However, it was a whirlwind couple of days with lots of time spend eating delicious food, seeing fantastic shows, catching up with friends, and exploring new parts of the city.
I made my way into a bunch of vintage stores that I hadn’t been to before (more on those later), and a number of cute places in Williamsburg. You can really never be done exploring that city. More photos to come soon.

Okay tumblr-verse, I’m heading to NYC tomorrow. Though I’ve been negligent in posting recently, I hope you’ll help me out by sending me messages with places that I should shop while there. Specifically I’m looking for off-the-beaten-track vintage stores (with actual non-inflated vintage prices), sample sale bins, and anywhere that I can grab an interesting item without putting out a lot of money. I’m poor, but love to shop. It’s an ongoing paradox.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
On our last day in New York (a rainy one), Liz and I headed to Rockefeller Center, for no real reason other than to walk around. We both decided that due to the integration of yet another new item, this outfit deserved a blog photoset. Not that it’s anything spectacular, but it’s a good walking-around-in-New-York-on-a-rainy-day outfit. Plus we found the J Crew beside 30 Rock to be VERY helpful.
Today’s Photographer: The lovely Liz. Of course.
New York Flashback
While in New York, I put on a few other outfits (other than those simply made for May Days). When you’re travelling and seeing shows and going to dinner, etc., you use more clothes. Though in this post and the next, you’ll see the limitations of a single suitcase. Either way, I like this combo that included some of my new items from the trip. I put this together when Liz and I went to see Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo—starring Robin Williams. And it was phenomenal.

May Day #21: Bow Tied Brunch
On the Sunday of our trip, Liz and I headed to the meat-packing district for a delicious brunch at Revel (I think). Either way, there was a fashion photographer shooting some models just down the street and we figured that we should do our photoshoot there too—after they had left of course.
These are my real statement shoes. I bought them in Paris from a department store because I wanted to have one “major” clothing purchase from Paris—something that I would keep for a while. And these puppies aren’t going anywhere. They don’t go with everything, but when they do, it’s so good.
Today’s Photographer: The lovely Liz, who acted as a model for a few photos that day too.
May Day #20: Kickin’ It In Brooklyn
With summer just around the corner and the knowledge that I was going to be visiting the Brooklyn Flea Market while in New York, I created this outfit to match both the season and the sentiment. However, it was a little cooler and cloudier than anticipated and I ended up covering up with a sweatshirt shortly after taking these photos. I will say that the Brooklyn Flea Market was one of the best vintage shopping experiences that I’ve ever had, but more on that in a future blog post.
These red Converse are classic. This is my second pair of red Converse sneakers and I anticipate that I will always own a pair. Plus they were comfy for walking around a market all morning.

More New York
Because can you really ever get enough?
May Day #18: Walking Around
These shoes are a recent re-discovery for me. I bought them more almost four years ago and wore them all the time. I like how easy they seem to incorporate into any outfit, but also how the pre-distressed edges make the leather weaving anything but formal. I’m also pretty into them because they’re comfortable. Last Friday, these were the perfect choice for travelling to New York and then spending the afternoon shopping, starting off in the always enjoyable Chinatown. This outfit also features my first New York purchase—the gold military lapel pin—which I bought just before taking this photoset.
